Yes folks, it's that time of the year. Apple has a brand new iPhone firmware, version 3.0 which is filled with features. All we need now is a new iPhone version. Let's take a look at those new features then!

Copy/Cut & Paste is here. Double-tap on any piece of text and you will get a cut, copy and paste bubble dialog. Double-tap again and a paste bubble will appear if there's anything in the clipboard. The application is available for copy and pasting photos too.

The landscape keyboard is also official. You can write anything you want in landscape now.

Peer-to-peer WiFi connectivity will allow two iPhones to connect directly without the need of an actual WiFi network.

A new API will let you use your iPhone or iPod touch to control peripherals. Maps will be used inside other applications as Maps is now an API. Turn by turn directions will also be available. Developers will be able to create turn-by-turn applications using the iPhone GPS and combining it with any maps without actually needing a 3G connectivity or Google.

iPhone 3.0 will also bring us that much needed push notification. Voice over IP and voice communication will be used in any application starting with this iPhone OS. Auto recording will be possible and accessing music from applications will also be now available.

As for the App Store, the new OS will bring new possibilities too. You'll be able to subscribe to apps, purchase additional content for apps or additional levels for games.

iPhone 4G Concept Is Everything You Expect It to Be

Look at those curves there. The phone in the picture here is an iPhone 4G concept which won't see the light of day anytime soon. We've seen one earlier this year but this one is totally new. The design is inspired in the MacBook Air and it would probably offer us everything we're missing in current iPhone models. In the picture here the iPhone 4G is engaged in videochat while Google is quietly displaying the GPS location of your friends. Naturally this iPhone has a front camera, a better processor and it knows how to multitask. I bet there's even copy and paste action inside. Enough day-dreaming for now, maybe Toshiba's touchscreen phone will deliver everything the iPhone didn't.

Today is definitely an iPhone rumor day. We're probably going to have more of those in the following months. The phone in the picture is a concept iPhone 4G phone. Here's what this iPhone 4G will feature:

iPhone Nano

iPhoneRumors abound that Apple is just months away from unveiling a new iPhone Nano, a smaller version of the wildly popular (but prohibitively expensive) Apple cell phone with the unique visual customer interface and fabulous graphics capabilites. The release of an iPhone Nano would enable Apple to enter the $99-$149 price point, and would likely blow just about every other cell phone out of the water--at least for awhile.

iPod Nanos have done very well especially in the young adult market, so users are of that are already primed for a matching iPhone Nano and will scoop these up in droves once they are announced at hit the stores. While Apple will neither confirm nor deny the rumors (which have been swirling around for the past year), several manufacturers have leaked that they are already building iPhone Nano cases, giving the possibility more validity. Look for an official announcement by Apple in early March of 2009.

It's not Wal-Mart who's going to bring you a $99 8GB iPhone but it's AT&T. And it's not a 4GB version but an 8GB version that AT&T is going to sell for $99. How's that possible you ask? Those 8GB iPhone 3G are refurbished ones. They will come with a 2-year contract and the $100 discount I've just told you about.

And in case your mind keeps wondering about refurbished 16GB iPhones then you'll be happy to know AT&T will offer you the same $100 discount for them. Scosche has developed a basic yet useful device to charge your iPhone, it is called reviveLITE and its main function is to provide some kind of night light. It doesn't have any additional feature besides the lightning, so that's where the basic part comes from.

Anyhow, the reviveLITE is available in black and white, with a price tag of $40. On top of charging your iPhone and providing light, it can also charge other Apple devices - like almost all iPods.

Do you have a MacBook and miss the numeric keypad that most keyboards have? Do you also own an iPhone? If so, just get the Numberkey Application and life will become easier.

Is Apple ready to offer the iPhone at a huge discount? Is a $99 iPhone something that could materialize in the near future? What would Ballmer say about such an event?

Charlie Wolf from Needham Research said that Apple's doubled revenue in the last year has been hidden due to accounting rules. But that might be just a factor for dropping the iPhone's price below the current $199 entry price. Apple sold 6.9 million iPhones worldwide and a third of those have landed in the USA only. That leaves lots of room fore more sales. And what better incentive for customers than a significantly lower entry price?

We'll just have to see tight and see how this whole economic crisis blows over. And let's not forget that Android is marching strong these days. That alone might be another important factor in a future Apple decision to sell cheaper handset!
AT&T Sold 2.4 Million iPhones in Third Quarter

AT&T sold quite a lot of iPhones this last quarter. With 2.4 million iPhones sold, AT&T has managed to sell almost a third of the 6.9 million handsets that Apple reported to have sold.

That means the carrier saw profits rise 5.5% to $3.23 billion or 55 cents a share, compared to one year ago when AT&T pulled in $3.06 billion, or 50 cents a share. AT&T finished the quarter with 74.9 million subscribers with 2 million of those new subscribers. 40% of the 2.4 million iPhone 3G subscribers are new subscribers.

And iPhone subscribers are bringing in lots of money. Average monthly revenues per subscriber or ARPUs are 1.6 times higher for iPhone subscribers than the the other subscribers. AT&T saw its wireless data revenues increase with 50.5% compared to last year for a total of $2.7 billion.

So given that you have lots of money and lots of iPhone sales, when are you going to sell the Bold already?
Microsoft's Silverlight Soon on G1 and iPhone

Microsoft's Silverlight might soon be on the G1 and the iPhone. It seems like Microsoft isn't wasting any time in its battle with Adobe when it comes to the company's Flash technology competitor, Silverlight.

Microsoft is reportedly very interested in pushing Silverlight on Apple's devices. But it's well known that Apple ultimately controls what software runs on the iPhone - so good luck Microsoft. However, the story is quite different when it comes to the G1.

Google's Android mobile operating system is open source and with the forthcoming Android Market, Google's implementation of Apple's App Store, things are going to be easier for Microsoft to release Silverlight for Android. The fundamental difference between Android Market and Apple's App Store is that Google's mobile apps store is open to all, making it easier for companies to release their software on the Android platform.

Microsoft's Silverlight has been in use on the Web by companies such as NBC to stream video from this summer's Olympic games and is Adobe Flash's main contender in the multimedia rich browser plug-ins. Microsoft launched version 2 of the Silverlight browser plugin earlier this week.
10 Million Apple iPhones Sold Already?

According to analysts Apple has managed to reach their 10 million sold iPhones for 2008 three months before the actual end of the year. It looks like Apple has sold from 7 to 7.5 million iPhones in Q4 of the fiscal year (Q3 of 2008). That's from 2 to 3 million more than it was previously estimated by specialists.

How do they count all those sold iPhones? Well that's actually pretty simple. Simply track the IMEI. The IMEI is the International Mobile Equipment Identity number composed by an unique 15 digit code. The IMEI is placed on the back of the box of the iPhone. From the 15 digits there are two 6-digit sequences which are very important. One of them, the TAC or Type Allocation Code shows a particular build or set of manufactured iPhones. The other 6 digit number is unique to each iPhones. Which means every TAC has a maximum of one million iPhones attached to it.

Therefore it wasn't that difficult for the Mac Observer guys to track the IMEI and count the 3G iPhones sold. By September Apple had about 8 million 3G iPhones manufactured. The last IMEI number was 9,190,680 and it matches an 8GB iPhone manufactured on September 29 and sold yesterday. However that doesn't mean that all those 10 million iPhones out there have been sold to date. But they are likely to sell in the next three months. We'll see in a couple of months exactly how many iPhones Apple has soldz worldwide in 2008.

So AT&T, maybe it's time to roll out that BlackBerry Bold already. It feels like you have sold enough iPhones already!
VoIP Comes to the iPhone via Fring

I don't know what's happening with Apple, but the iPhone creator has just approved a VoIP application for the handset. Fring is available from the iTunes store for free now and you can use it for free, unlimited calls. Sure you're going to pay for your data but I'd install it for all those times when a free WiFi spot is accessible. Better get it now too since you'll never know when Apple changes its mind about the whole VoIP thing.

Here's what Fring says:

You will have one searchable contact list with all your instant messaging buddies from Skype, MSN Messenger, Google Talk, ICQ, Twitter, Yahoo! and AIM, so you can easily see whose available and where they can be reached before dialing or starting a live chat session.

Chinese iPhone 3G Will be 3G-less and WiFi-less

I am not exactly sure about the actual iPhone arrival in China but we know how Apple is eager to enter that large consumer market. South China Morning Post is saying that the iPhone 3G will come without 3G and WiFi. Which is really a very bad thing if proven to be so.

China Mobile will apparently ask Apple to disable the two features. They don't have a 3G network so it makes sense. But WiFi is everywhere! So why disable that?

If I am in China will I be able to use my Apple as a cell phone? And how much would an Chinese iPhone 3G without 3G and iPhone cost?

iPhone 3G Comes to Best Buy in Canada

We warned Americans when their Best Buy stores started to sell iPhone 3G and now we have to warn fellow Canadians that their Best Buy has also decided to pick up Apple's handset.

Going to Best Buy Canada won't help you get an unlocked iPhone. The prices are the same, $199 for the 8GB and $299 for the 16GB as long as you get a three-year contract from Rogers or Fido. So one more store selling the same product under the same conditions.

Remember the guy that managed to pull in a whooping $250,000 after developing that silly Bejeweled game version for the iPhone? Want to be one of those guys? Well Apple will offer you a chance through its iPhone Developer University program which is now available in the USA.

It's not actually a real university but an opportunity for other universities to introduce curriculum for developing iPhone and iPod touch applications. This program will let your university start development programs with up to 200 students free of charge.

Here's what Apple has to say about it:

With the suite of sophisticated and elegant tools included in the iPhone SDK, and a wide-range of resources in the iPhone Dev Center, students participating in the class will have everything they need to create innovative applications for iPhone and iPod touch.

Rumored: iPhone 3G Home Activation and Product Refresh

Does Apple have a surprise for us? According to word on the street future Apple customers will be able to purchase an iPhone without a contract and activate it at home. Does this mean Americans will get the option of finally buying a contract free device? According to Apple Store retail employees a new option appeared on their EasyPay system. When making a sale they can choose Home now besides the previous four options which were: upgrade/swap existing iphone, new to AT&T starting a single line, new to AT&T starting a family line and add a line to existing account. But the Home option isn't working for now.

Let's go back in time to September 2007. That's when Apple dropped the 4GB iPhone and added then added the 16GB version in February 2008. It looks like right now 8GB iPhones 3G are reported to be missing form certain retailers. Does this mean a 32GB iPhone 3G model is coming up?
iPhone 3G Wins Year's Best Gadget Award at Stuff Magazine

Those of you which happen to hate Apple for no apparent reason, look away. Its iPhone 3G has just won this year's best gadget award against tough competition from three games consoles, a budget laptop and an iPod speaker system. The readers of Stuff magazine.

The other nominees were the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360, the Wii Fit, the Asus Eee PC, and the B&W Zeppelin iPod speakers. All products were compared on performance, design and value.

While the public chose the iPhone 3G as the gadget of the year, the magazine chose the Asus Eee PC as the staff's gadget of the year.

Stuff magazine might not be the most relevant magazine for you, but its readers appreciate the iPhone. Will other prizes follow? Maybe more important awards?
Rumored: New Apple ARM Chip to be Created for Next-Gen iPhone

Stop the presses people! It appears there's a new generation iPhone coming our way! Well actually that's not exactly news since we are all expecting for that to happen.

Senior manager of Apple's chip team, a certain Wei-han Lien has thought about sharing his job description on LinkedIn. He's profile says he is currently in charge of the ARM CPU architecture team for the iPhone. Since both iPhones so far have their particular ARM processors ready we would assume that he should be managing the ARM processor for the next generation iPhone. If that's all true, someone is going to get in trouble for sharing all that info all of a sudden... Oh and Mr. Wei-han Lien, please tell them about the copy paste thing. I know it's not your domain since you are managing the ARM CPU architecture team but you might give it a try!

So is Apple getting custom chips for its new generation of iPhones? Are they getting them from the P.A. Semiconductor company they have purchased? The company is said to be able to make powerful, cheap and energy saving chips. Hmmm, longer battery life you say?
iPhone 2.1 Firmware Out Now

Here she is, Apple has officially unleashed the iPhone 2.1 software, promising to fix all of those annoying bugs plaguing previous version.

The most important of the fixes listed above would have to be improved battery life for "most users", decreased dropped calls, and the improved 3G signal display. Other than that, the update includes various bug fixes that caused iPhones running the earlier versions to crash. Let's hope this really works.

Here is something that will knock the pants off of that boring little dock Apple bundled with your iPhone.

Sony's new ICF-CD3iP iPhone dock not only charges your iPhone, or iPod, but the list of features is a pretty extensive one. This device also includes a built in block along with a CD player and AM/FM radio.

That's not it though, if you're having trouble getting out of bed and just so happen to pick one of these up you can choose from the convential buzzer to wake you up OR the CD player, radio or connected iPod. Pretty cool.

This thing is expected to sell for $100 and go on sale in October.
Beware, Your iPhone is Watching You

This one goes to all those paranoid minds out there ready to create conspiracy theories out of everything. It looks like your friendly iPhone is kind of watching your every action. What it does is take a snapshot of the current screen and caches it every time you push the home button, but only for a few seconds. And since that's the most important button, since its' the only one, to be pushed, I'd say you end up pushing it quite a lot.

Is it dangerous for you? Hardly! You have probably more chances of ending up in a local black hole than having your most personal, yet dirty secrets revealed by a smart thief who manages to pull up those screenshots you took with your home button. I know I said it caches them for a few seconds but a mac-savvy mind will find them sooner or later. And I really doubt that a smart thief like that will steal your boring phone instead or phishing for something else.
iTunes 8, What Do You Think

You must have already upgraded to iTunes 8 by now right? After all that was one very important and very expected point of yesterday's Apple event.

Steve Jobs pointed out how iTunes has already served about 8.5 million songs, over 125,000 podcasts, over 30,000 TV shows, 2,600 movies and about 100 million iPhone apps downloads. The new iTunes will bring HDTV shows as NBC is back so you'll have more reasons to get it.

And then there's Genius. Like I said before, I am not sure I want iTunes to tell me what music I might like. But it's certainly a nice feature. Genius will generate a playlist based on what you are listening to this very moment. You can save the list, refresh it or ignore it.

That's it for the Genius, now moving on to the new Grid, you will get a different visual experience. You can order your playlist by album, artist, genre or composer. You can modify the icons size and you have a pretty good Visualiser.
