Here we go people! The rumors have started to come in about the arrival date of the Pre. Palm has announced that the new smartphone will be available in the first half of the year. Well it looks like that first half of the year means June for some of you. Sprint employees are being trained on that Pre. Here's what Sarah Lucy (a tech journalist) Twitters about it:

i honestly tried to bribe sprint employees to give me an unlocked pre. they're all training on them! i know they have them back there

So what do you think? Do you have a better source? In the mean time we're going to wonder if this tweet is true:

sprint employees told me the pre doesn't come out until JUNE! :(

Palm PrePalm's next-generation smartphone is a touch-based device called the Pre, which features a 3.1-inch display with 320 x 480 resolution, and EVDO Rev. A for connectivity, as well as GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR with stereo support. The Pre will come with an astonishing 8GB of on-board storage, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, a replaceable battery, and a 3.5mm headset jack.

Its 3 megapixel camera with LED flash will be superior to what you would expect to find in a handheld device, and the next-generation mobile platform, called webOS, will include gesture-based input for interacting with the Pre. Look for the Pre to be released on the Sprint network in the first half of 2009. Palm says that it is also working on a WCDMA version of the Pre, although the release date on that version has not yet been announced.

Is this the new Treo that Palm is getting ready for 2009? They have been plans for the upcoming year, but if they want to sell those phones they ordered, they need some good handsets.

This is the Treo Pro, supposed to work on Windows Mobile. So there's no Palm OS for now. The flash presentation was taken down from Palm's site leaving us wanting for more. We need specs, prices and launch date. In the mean time enjoy the screens!

Palm Centro 2 Million Units Sold
By

Palm Centro is reported to have surpassed the 2 million sold units barrier. How is that compared to Apple's iPhone sales? Who is going to win an iPhone vs Palm competition?

Provided Palm will continue to update their OS and launch better Centros, they are likely to continue to sell lots of handsets too. Maybe not as many as Apple which appears to learn more and more things about the mobile business and even reinvent it in some cases.

AdMob statistics shows that more mobile ads are served to Palm devices than iPhones, whether we are talking worldwide or USA. Of course Palm has been selling phones for far longer than Apple has but the battle is about to begin.

Looking at both phones, the iPhone seems to have a little advantage at this time, with all the buzz going around it. Palm Centro is still going to be a worthy adversary and its fans will be waiting for lots of upgrades, including touchscreens, but not only.

So congrats to Palm for now, but we're expecting more!

Sprint Treo 755p ROM Updates: Palm, Vague to the Point of Annoyance

A new ROM update for the Treo 755p has just been released under the name ROM version 1.07. And guess what -- Palm describes it as:

This software update is a tune-up that improves audio, stability, software quality and device usability.

Can't be any vaguer than that. With the way the description's written, the update might be mere bug fixes and the like. But hey, then again, a vague update is better than your OS collecting cobwebs, right? It takes around 45 minutes to completely update to Palm Treo 755p ROM version 1.07. Different installation methods for Windows and Mac are available.

See the update info page.

Palm Shuts Down Seven out of Eight Retail Stores

Palm really has fallen upon hard times as it announces shutting down seven out of their eight retail stores. Only their Sunnyvale, California branch will remain open. Aside from shutting down their retail stores, Palm also announced shutting down 26 Airport Wireless stores. Palm has taken a beating from competitors as of late. Their lack of OS updates only adds to their predicament. Furthermore, customers who bought the Treo 600 or 650 have eligible for replacements due a class-action suit, still adding to Palm's current crisis. It's heartbreaking for old Palm fans to see this unfold. But it'll equally interesting to see how Palm will take the projected $320 million losses by this quarter.

The company is developing the OS to be unveiled officially by late 2008 with the purpose of releasing the new Palm device by around February 2009.

Can Palm Make a Comeback in 2008?

palm_logo.jpg

Can Palm make a comeback in 2008?, once a almighty company that laughed at its rivals attempts to compete with them, it is now sadly facing the biggest struggle for surival of its live. 2007 has been a very horrible year for Palm and everyone is at a lost for a reason why. Everybody knows Palm, their phones are world class, whole communities (like Apple and Blackberry have) are dedicated discussing everything Palm. God can only hope that it doesn't go the way of Sony's walkmans. But really when you think about it a bit, Palm has still got so much going for it, they cuts cost recently (But Sadly Job cuts), they got a new CEO (Former Apple executive, you can't get better than that), the brands still strong, there products are great and hopefully they will have a million geeks behind them in 2008. I think all they need now is Google Andriod and their set.

Apparently the user was reading emails exchanged between Palm and the FCC and dug up four code names of current Palm development. He then goes on to explain how he came to his conclusions about how the Palm W800 may very well be on the way. You can head over to treocentral and check out the original forum post to see for yourself.

Former Apple VP Jon Rubenstein will join Palm as the new executive chairman of the board. The Palm board will also increase in size from 8 to 9 members.
